Located mid-mountain at the top of the Ten Peaks area, the Umbrella Bar is Crested Butte Mountain Resort’s (CBMR) newest on-mountain destination. Situated amongst amazing panoramic views of the resort, the peak and the mountains beyond, the Umbrella Bar features a retractable roof and plenty of Adirondack chair seating, encouraging lounging and gathering.
Adding to the allure of the Umbrella Bar is the fact that requires a bit more effort to get to than most restaurants. The mid-mountain location caters to the adventurous, although with multiple means of arrival, this “off the beaten path” destination may be easier to reach than you might believe.
Depending on the level of effort that you would like to muster up, try out one of these ways of accessing the Umbrella Bar.
By Mountain Bike
The Umbrella Bar is located directly off of the Painter Boy trail within the Evolution Bike Park. Access is quick and easy from the top of the Red Lady Express Lift, and can be accessed via beginner or intermediate trails.
Save your legs and enjoy the lift-accessed mountain biking off of the Red Lady Express Lift. Once you unload at the top of the lift, the quickest and most popular route to the Umbrella Bar is to continue onto Primer. This beginner trail is nearly entirely downhill until you run into the 5-Way intersection and Painter Boy trail. Enjoy a beautiful, windy and smooth pedal along Painter Boy until you see the Umbrella Bar at Ten Peaks. Veer right to access the road and grab a drink or bite to eat!
When you are ready to depart, there are numerous trail options to descend back to the base area. Please note that a Scenic Lift Ticket or Adventure Park Ticket is required to ride the chairlift.
By Foot
Similar to those on two wheels, there are multiple routes to take to get to the Umbrella Bar. For an easier trip, follow the same directions listed above; if you are looking to earn your drinks and food a little more, hiking up from the CBMR base area is an enjoyable way to reach your destination.
From the base area, hikers are encouraged to follow the Up and Away trail until the intersection with the Columbine trail. The Columbine trail traverses the side of Columbine Hill through tall grasses, aspen groves and wildflowers of all colors! Eventually, Columbine merges into the Painter Boy trail. Take a left and continue to meander through the aspen trees until you see the Umbrella Bar on your left.
Please remember to practice your Mountain Manners and stay on the trail rather than cutting through the grass!
By Car
New for this summer is the ability to drive to the Umbrella Bar! An easy drive for most vehicles – 4 wheel drive is not required. Experience the amazing mountain vistas and relaxing environment at the Umbrella Bar.
From the base area, take a right onto Gothic Road for approximately 1.5 miles. Just before the Snodgrass Trailhead and the road turns to dirt, take a right on Prospect Road. Continue up the hill on Prospect Road until it turns to dirt and continue through a gate. Turn right and follow the signs through the Aspen grove to the Umbrella Bar at Ten Peaks.
Please be sure to park in the designated area and use caution to avoid driving over local flora. Vehicular access to the Umbrella Bar may not be permitted if an event is taking place.
